AVG 7.5 Technical FAQ » Remote Administration » Installation of remote administration on Firebird server
The Firebird server installation file is available on
http://www.firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=engine_154
Choose the 1.5.4-Release version. Installation file is called Firebird-1.5.4.4910-0-Win32.exe. Run the installation file on the server and go through the installation process. In the Select Components stage, choose the Full installation of Super Server and development tools option. Leave the default settings.
After the installation, there is a new Firebird Server Manager item in your Control Panel. We recommend configuring the server to be run automatically as a service. Enable also the Generate client library as GDS32.dll for legacy app option.
Please let us inform you that it is not possible to use the newer version of Firebird database server at this moment.
The easiest way is to use the same installation package:
http://www.firebirdsql.org/index.php?op=files&id=engine_154
If you wish to use FireBird as the DataCenter, on the page Select Components you have to choose Minimum client install – no server, no tools. It is not necessary to change the other settings during the installation.
Note:
Actually the computers which will connect to the Datacenter with Firebird database, only need GDS32.DLL library to be installed on the client computer (you can copy that from the server where you installed Firebird server in the previous step). The library has to be stored in the system variables path. The best solution is to store it to the destination where other libraries are, which is different for each system:
Windows 95, Windows 98 a Windows Me: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Windows NT4.0 a Windows 2000: C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32
Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
server:4156
(where "server" is IP address or name of the computer where Firebird server database is installed)
The Alert Manager service of AVG has to run under the Local System account on Windows NT based systems. This can be done in control panel -> administrative tools -> services, AVG7 Alert Manager Server item. Double click on this item and choose local system account in “log on” tab. If the service runs, it has to be restarted.
If everything is set correctly, the client AVG 7 as the AVGADMIN will be connected to the DataCenter.
