FAQ

If you would like to install and use AVG Plus Firewall Edition and the AVG Free Edition is already installed, you must first un-install the AVG Free Edition and then install the AVG Plus Firewall Edition using the latest installation file. Please follow these steps:

• Download the latest AVG Plus Firewall Edition installation file from our website at Downloads-Programs
• Un-install your current AVG version (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/remove programs->choose the AVG Free from the list->Un-install)
• Restart your computer
• Run the downloaded file and enter your AVG Plus Firewall Edition license number to install this version of the AVG

Even before the firewall starts for the first time, it requires allowed/blocked applications/protocols to be specified.
The installation of AVG Plus Firewall Edition requires the computer to be restarted. The Automatic Configuration Wizard runs before the computer restart to ensure that your computer is fully protected immediately upon restart.

The firewall integrated into the MS WindowsXP operating system is automatically deactivated immediately after the AVG Plus Firewall Edition is installed. Then you have to configure the AVG Firewall(Automatic Configuration Wizard) and reboot the computer. After this restart the Security Center should detect the AVG Firewall correctly.

You can save your current settings of AVG Firewall (rules and configuration from all profiles) and import it back, by the following method:

AVG Control Center->AVG Firewall->Configure->General tab->Export Settings button->choose the name of the configuration file and where it will be saved
If you would like to import the exported configuration please use the Import Settings button and choose the saved file.

If you like to save just configuration from all profiles, please follow these steps:
AVG Control Center->AVG Firewall->Configure->Profile tab->Export Profile button->choose the name of the configuration file and where it will be saved
If you would like to import the exported configuration please use the Import Profile button and choose the saved file.

It is possible to un-install AVG Plus Firewall Edition in the following ways:

• Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/remove programs->choose AVG Plus Firewall from the list->Un-install

or

• Download the latest AVG Plus Firewall Edition installation file from our Internet pages Downloads-Programs, run this file and then choose the Un-install option

Please always finish this un-installation process by restarting the computer.

If you already have AVG without the Firewall component installed, you can follow these steps in order to add the Firewall component:

First possibility:

• Please download the latest installation file of AVG from Downloads-Products and run it to start the installation process
• The installation process recognizes the existence of installed AVG and the Add/RemoveComponents option is offered
• If your current AVG license number does not supports the Firewall component, please replace it with AVG  license number that supports this component. (AVG plus Firewall license number or AVG Internet Security license number)
• Select that the Firewall component should be installed in the next step of AVG installation wizard
• Finish the installation

Second possibility (in case procedure mentioned above can not be applied for any reason):

It is possible to un-install your current AVG edition first and then install the edition of AVG with the Firewall component following these steps:

• Download the latest AVG  installation file from our website at Downloads-Products
• Un-install your current version (Start->Settings->Control Panel->Add/remove programs->choose AVG from the list->Un-install)
• Restart your computer
• Run the downloaded file and enter your AVG license number that supports the Firewall component to install this version of the AVG

This warning is displayed, because you previously had a version of AVG with Firewall installed on your computer. Since then, you have activated AVG with a license which does not support the AVG Firewall component (but the Firewall component has not been uninstalled from your computer).
To solve this problem we recommend that you either active AVG with a license number which supports the AVG Firewall component (1) or uninstall the AVG Firewall component (2).

1. You can active AVG with a license number which supports AVG Firewall as follows:

- launch AVG
- choose the "Information" menu
- click on the "Activate AVG" option
- enter your correct AVG license number into the last textbox
- confirm by clicking on the "Activate" button


2. You can uninstall the AVG Firewall component as follows:

- download the latest AVG installation file from this website.
- run the downloaded file and choose the third option - "UNINSTALL"
- restart your computer
- run the downloaded file again and install AVG using your existing license number

In the latest AVG version, the Firewall component is fully compatible with Windows Vista. If your AVG license number supports the installation of this component, but AVG Firewall is not currently installed on your pc, it is necessary to add this component.
